Winry
I will eventually post this to ff.net, but for now they're going up here. I started doing these with a friend of mine on deviantart, and only have a few done so far.

FMA belongs to Hiromu Arakawa.

Comments are much appreciated! I've never really done a kidfic before, so I figured I'd try one. Besides, the prompt was 'introduction'. :D A note on Winry's dad- I have heard many variations of his name from different sources. I've heard Daniel, I've heard Rick, and I've heard Urey or Uley. I have no clue which is correct, so I went with the one that sounds best.

#1~ Introduction

Trisha Elric wiped her hands on the apron around her waist. “Dear!” She called back into the hall. “Sarah and Rick will be here soon! Come on out so you can meet their daughter!” Her husband’s voice came faintly to her from his study. “I’ll be out soon!”

Smiling a little and shaking her head, Trisha smiled down at her son where he was spread out on a blanket. He gurgled happily back up at her. Trisha couldn’t help but giggle, ruffling his surprising amount of hair affectionately. Three months ago, Sarah and Rick Rockbell had left for Central to visit Sarah’s family- and while there, Sarah had given birth to a daughter that they named ‘Winry.’ Now they were on their way home, and had promised to come by after dropping off their things at their house.

Trisha was very excited to see her two closest friends again- not to mention their little girl, who sounded simply adorable from their descriptions.

There was a faint knock at the front door.

“Oh!” Trisha bent down, deftly picking up Ed and placing him on her hip, his wide golden eyes looking around curiously. “Coming!” She briskly walked to the door, calling back over her shoulder to her husband. “Dear! Sarah and Rick are here!” She heard him stumbling around in the dark of his study, cursing. She giggled, stopping short just in front of the door, pulling it open to reveal her best friends.

Sarah was the first one Trisha saw. She looked tired, and perhaps a little paler than normal, but her smile and eyes were bright. There was a small bundle in her arms, which she quickly handed to Rick, just as Hohenheim appeared behind Trisha, who placed their son in his arms. The girls embraced each other, while Hohenheim and Rick exchanged nods. Trisha stepped back, giving Rick a small hug, careful not to jostle the baby in his arms. She turned, motioning them inside, trying not to frown when her husband immediately handed Ed back to her, eyes downcast.

“Trish, it’s so great to see you,” Sarah said, following the other woman and sitting down on their couch.

“Yeah,” Rick said, giving a crooked grin. “We both really wanted you there for the birth...” He laughed suddenly. “I think that was the cheapest work I’ve ever done...though I admittedly wouldn’t have minded another doctor doing it...”

Hohenheim spoke up for the first time, a slight smile on his face. “The blood’s different, when it’s your wife there, isn’t it?”

Rick grinned, a little embarrassed. “It wasn’t that bad, but all the same...” He shuddered a little, shaking his head.

Sarah raised an eyebrow as her husband sat beside her. “You’re one to talk,” she said. “You weren’t the one screaming your head off.” Rick blanched while Trisha giggled, bouncing Ed on her knee. “Oh, how well I remember that,” she said reminiscently.

Sarah turned her attention to the boy in Trisha’s hands, sighing happily. “Aw, look how much he’s grown!” She put out a hand, gently ruffling Ed’s hair. “How are ya, little guy?” Ed squirmed a little under her hand, frowning. Sarah laughed.

“He’s looking good,” Rick commented. “He’ll be breaking hearts before you-ah!” He looked down at the bundle in his arms, which quivered a little, a small sound escaping it. His face became very soft, and Sarah leaned forward, helping her husband to remove the blanket around the baby’s face.

“She’s awake,” Rick commented quietly, the soft smile still on his face.

Sarah giggled. “Hello sweetie. Good morning!” Her hand smoothed back hair from a face that Trisha couldn’t see. “Here, let me hold her, Rick.” Her husband placed the small girl in her arms, and Sarah turned the child so that Trisha could see.

The first thing she noticed was the eyes- Sarah’s exact shape, and a perfect blending of both hers’ and Rick’s blue. Her hair was blonde, not gold like Ed’s or his father’s, but like the sun.  Eyes blinked, and looked at her with frank curiosity, eyebrows furrowed a little.

“Oh, Sarah...Rick...she’s beautiful...” Trisha breathed, smiling delightedly.

“Thanks,” Sarah smiled as Rick put an arm around her shoulders. “Your son is too.”

Trisha smiled. “Yes, he is...” She set Ed gently on the floor, and Sarah did the same with her daughter. “Ed..” Trisha said softly, “This is Winry.”

“Winry Rockbell, meet Edward Elric,” Sarah said, leaning back. “I think you two will get along just fine.”

Ed looked at Winry in some confusion, as if he didn’t quite know what she was. Winry blinked, turning her head a little to one side, fist in her mouth.

Ed leaned forward, crawling toward her, she leaned forward as well, bringing her face close to his. They studied each other, faces both identical looks of wonder. Then, quite suddenly, they both smiled, Winry clapping her hands together and giving a high giggle, while Ed gave his brightest grin.

“Well...” Rick said as they began to play as only small babies could, slapping their palms on the floor and rolling onto their stomachs. “Looks like they like each other.”

Sarah elbowed him in the stomach. “Watch it,” she teased. “Now they’ll end up married.”

Rick pulled a tormented face, eyeing his daughter. “Don’t even joke about that...”

Trisha laughed.

Later, after much conversation, a few bumped heads, and the sharing of some toys, the parents looked down to find their children asleep on the rug, Winry’s head tucked under Ed’s chin, one of his arms around her shoulders, her hand resting lightly on his arm.

And theme #2 is Love....

Written because I always found the statement: "Love means never having to say you're sorry" to be idiotic. I think Ed and Winry really prove this point. :)

#2~ Love

Love was, people said, many things. Ed knew what love was- of course he knew. He had loved his mother, his brother- and however short of time it may have been, for a little while at least, he had loved his father.

Ed knew about love. Love meant that you would give anything to make someone happy, that you wanted them to smile, and that you would protect them from any danger.

Ed knew that, unlike popular belief, love wasn’t the only thing you needed. Scientifically speaking, you also needed food, water, shelter, all the necessities, to survive. Of course, he personally went on to add that people needed alchemy, and sleep, but most definitely did not need milk.

Love meant family. Mother, father, brother.

For years, that was the only love that Ed understood.

But Ed knew now, that there were many different types of love.

And Ed knew that love also meant arguing.

“Honestly, Ed!” Winry turned her back on him, anger flashing in her eyes. “You can be such a jerk!” Her arms were crossed tightly, refusing to look at him.

Ed prepared an angry retort, but something about her actions- the way she had turned her whole self away, made his stomach sink. His mouth went suddenly dry. He didn’t want to see Winry with her back turned to him, didn’t want to see what he must have shown her all those years, the sight of his back. He licked his lips, and approached her from behind, burying his face in her neck, kissing it softly. She softened a little, but didn’t say anything.

“I’m sorry, Winry...” he murmured quietly.

She shook her head, and turned in his arms to hold him tight, and Ed realized yet another thing about love:

Love indeed was many things, but love also meant knowing when to say you’re sorry.

And this is actually theme #5 because three and four tie together, and are going to be very very long.

#5~ Seeking Solace

I always see fics where Winry is afraid of thunderstorms, so I thought I would go with a twist...

Enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~
Winry shivered a little in her blankets. Thunder clapped outside and she jumped a little bit. She wasn’t afraid of thunder and lightning, but the sound caught her off guard sometimes. She looked down at the lump beside her and smiled, running her finger lightly down his arm. Memories came back to her, memories of when she and Ed and Al were kids.
It happened sometimes. Resembool, though quite hot most of the year, also had some very devastating rain storms. It was one of these storms of course, that would bring Ed and Al their teacher- though of course, that wouldn’t happen for some time yet.
They had always been best friends. They’d known each other practically from the moment they were born, after all. Their houses were close together, so it wasn’t unusual for one of them to sneak to the other’s house late at night, and curl up in bed with them either for being scared, or just because they felt like it. Often, they would all sleep together, arms and heads nestled close. But sometimes, Winry would sleep alone with one Elric brother in particular.
He had come to her, that first night, in one of her earlier memories. It was one of the first hard thunderstorms that she recalled. The sounds didn’t frighten her. Her parents had explained that it was natural for the sky to make those sounds sometimes, just as it was natural for people to breathe.
She was sitting in her room, getting a little tired, when a bang sounded outside, closer than the thunder. She jumped wildly, falling out of her bed, looking over at her window to see Ed of all people standing and shivering out on her balcony.
She tiptoed as fast as she could over to him, opening the door with a whispered: “Ed! How did you get up here?”
“C-climbed,” Ed shivered. A sudden thunderclap made him jump violently, snatching the covers and wrapping them around himself, sinking onto her bed.
“Ed?” Winry asked curiously. “Are you alright?”
“Fine.” Came the muffled reply. “The thunder was keeping me up, that’s all.”
Winry blinked, somewhat amazed. “Ed, are you afraid of the thunder?”
Ed stuck his head out of the blankets fiercely. “No! I’m not afraid!” Another loud clap made him retreat immediately under the covers again. After a slight pause, he said defensively: “I just don’t like it.”
Winry smothered her giggles. “Ed...didn’t your mom explain that thunder won’t hurt you?”
“I know that! And I told you, I’m not scared!” Another beat of thunder sent him under the covers again.
Winry frowned. It wasn’t like Ed to be scared of anything (except drinking milk, but that didn’t really count).  Silently, she walked over to her bed, unrolling the covers enough to curl up under them with him. He didn’t say anything.
“Ed...” She put her hand on his cold and wet arm. She laid back. “Come here, sillyhead. I...don’t like the thunder either.” Even more softly, she whispered: “You can stay with me if you want.”
They never gave permission when they stayed with each other. Doing this meant that it was their secret, Winry knew. Something between only the two of them.
Ed loosened, curling closer to her. “Just for tonight,” He said.
But it was more than just that one night. Every time the thunder sounded, he would jump, and pull closer to her. And she would stay curled up with him, all night.
Winry smiled a little, as thunder rang outside, and Ed reached for her, a frown on his face and a heavy crease between his eyes. As soon as she curled into him, he relaxed, face tucking under her chin, breathing on her collarbone.
Winry kissed his forehead, closing her eyes. Some things never changed.
Cute X3
And Winry's dad's name is Urey. There's a manga panel that has a picture of her parents graves, and the names on them, if you look close, are Sala and Urey (although, I attribute the l in Sala to Japanese r/l substitution.)
Sala
Urey
(couldn't figure out how to make the pictures actually show T_T
